So, in Real Time as I'm composing this Post, it's Halloween Morning. Princess T was wearing a Cow ensemble and brought her Pot Luck Offerings to Work with her. She's warming up to being participatory and not being as timid and shy at Work, her confidence is increasing. It was quite Cold this Morning so we had to use the New Truck's Seat Warmers for the first time. They toasted up way faster than our previous Nissan Frontier Truck's used to, so we had to turn them down before we were even out of the Community we live in! When we got there I saw an Older Female Co-Worker had a more elaborate Cow Costume on, I wonder if they'll have a Herd of them Today? *LOL*
The Man and I had spent part of the Day before Halloween Sourcing more favorite Halloween Candies and mini Holiday Themed Bagged Snacks, mostly for our Family, not to hand out. *LOL* We have more than enuf to hand out to Trick-Or-Treaters, even if by chance we get more of them than previous Years? I Hope we do, we thoroughly enjoy the Kids coming Door to Door in their Costumes. But, our Community of Mini Farms is an Older Island established many Decades before the City of Residential Subdivisions around it were established and grew up around it. So, they are the ones that attract the Kiddos and give them a bigger haul of Candy, it's also where most of the Younger Families live.
The most bang for their buck and all that Walking they have to do to get Candy is in the more densely packed Residential Subdivision and Apartment Housing. Not the Mini Farms spaced Acres apart and with no Sidewalks or Street Lights in 99.9% of our Community. Plus Irrigation Ditches filled with Water that could be a drowning Hazard should a Child fall into them in the pitch Black Dark of Night. And, with the amount and diversity of Livestock, and even Wildlife that gravitate to our more Maturely grown and spacious Lots, it can sound mighty Creepy and Scare the bejesus out of anyone at Night. *LOL* We've had Raccoons as big as Dogs that prowl after Dark and Coyote, the Residential Subdivisions don't attract as much of the Indigenous Wildlife.
We plan to sit out Front around our Firepit after Dark and hand out the Candy, with my Porch Decorations as our Backdrop. The Son and I will Park our Vehicles in the RV Side Driveway so there is an unobstructed View of our Decorations. It gave me an opportunity to trim off some Dead Branches off Omar's Lemon Tree that hangs over our Fence. It got some slight Bark Beetle infestation and we'll burn the Wood Tonight. We've got to cut up some of our larger Branches that dropped off Laura's Pecan Trees into our back Yard during the last Storm. Pecan and Citrus Wood will smell quite fragrant when burning. We've still got some Pine Wood from when we took our massive Dead Pine Tree down last Year when the Bark Beetle infestation hit the Valley hard. We're down to the massive Stump Wood whose girth is impressive coz the Tree was over 50 Years Old.
So, this Morning I snapped a few Pixs for this Post of the Front Porch and Patio area. I've added a few small pieces of additional Decor since the last time I Photographed it. Up until this Morning I was still rearranging Decorations and foofing it all. I can be so Anal about Placement, I know this about me! *Smiles* It was so Cold my Camera Lens was fogging up! But, less glare from the Sun this early, so, still could get a better set of Panoramic shots of my handiwork. I have so enjoyed the Season so far and will be a bit Let Down when it's over, which is typical for me. We usually take the Spooky Halloween Decor down the first Week of November, put it away and leave the Autumnal Harvest Vibe bits up until after Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving being such a neglected Special Holiday I think and so few Decorate for it. I've seen a few Taxidermy Turkeys but they're always out of my Budget.
I was also gonna replace my Aging Skeleton Crew since they're falling apart and brittle with Age. But, this Year they were Forty Bucks each and last Year they were only Twenty, so, that didn't happen!!! Yikes, talk about price gouging inflationary pricing! Is the faux Skeleton Import Business coming out of China, that limited in Supply or Production I Wondered? *LOL* And that's before any proposed DonOld increases in Tariff's, so, can you only Imagine?! We either need to start Producing in the U.S. of A. again or we're not gonna be able to afford our Imports we heavily rely upon. So, no New Skeletons this Year for us and Princess T said at SAVERS they were already eliminating all their Halloween Inventory Yesterday and taking it out of Stock! Replacing it with Christmas. Which, all Retailers have been actively doing for Weeks now actually.
At the Antique Mall I keep all my Halloween Merch I might have left up until after Thanksgiving. It still Sells well and in fact, will be highly sought after when people can't get it anywhere else now. Sales have been Steady but sluggish and not Strong. Depending upon how the Election goes, perhaps that will improve? There is the possibility it will get worse if the Election results and aftermath are catastrophic tho', or turn violent again, and Anarchy prevails, so... we'll have to wait and see what plays out? I'm usually not pessimistic, but, I can't pretend I'm not gravely concerned given the volatile Political Climate, deep divisions, and the Alt Right clearly being deliberately pre-ginned up again with all the Lies and Conspiracy Theories they Believe and are being Primed for again should their side Lose and they not accept it AGAIN!?
Okay, so I COULD actually manage to Guess the Halloween Costume of this Great-Granddaughter and what she's supposed to be... I'm a perceptive Genius like that. *Bwahahahaha* Her Older Brother was wearing half of a Dinosaur Costume and not cooperating, so his Pixs were not only a blur, but, well... half a Costume, need I say more? He's at THAT Age of utter Toddler Defiance and Rebellion. *Winks* I think this Granddaughter is quite overwhelmed right now with the Kids and her Relationship, and I have been concerned for her. Her Posts lately have been Dark and Heavy. Didn't get a good impression of the Mr. Wonderful she had the Kids by and eventually recently Married, he got lots of Babies Mamas already and seems the type to run thru Women and spread his Seed around to me. But, I don't Weigh in on the Adult Choices Kids or Grandkids make once they're Grown unless they ask me to give an Opinion.
She looks good and appears to be taking Care of herself, which is always difficult when you're juggling Motherhood and of Two Kids born pretty close together and are so Young, it's A LOT. But, Emotionally she seems drained and Relationally I am not sure she has a Partner whose pulling his weight and behaving responsibly or attentively? I'm not there, so I can only speculate, but my Spidey Senses told me she's in Crisis and he's no good, so I did ask her if she's Okay and am awaiting a response. She was an Older Mom when she started her Family and got Married. I had a Kid at 28, who was a Special Needs High Maintenance Child, so, I Get It... and then I also Raised a 2nd Generation of Kids... so I REALLY get the Fatigue Factor that sets in when Women who are more Mature are Raising Children. *LOL*
Response was: Yep, Divorceville. I told her the only thing worse than being in a Bad Relationship is staying in one a Day longer than you have to. They haven't been Married very long, but she said this has been something that wasn't a Surprise and she saw coming. I feel perhaps she did like I did with my First Husband? I had my First Child as an Unmarried Woman and had no desire to Marry the Father of my Daughter. He was Military and right after she was Born he transferred out of this AFB and I never saw him again. His Parents and Maternal Grandma were nice people, the Parents from Indiana, his Grandma from Wisconsin, and stayed in Touch with me to have some Relationship with their First Grandchild. The Grandparents even moved here to Arizona to be closer. By the time she was a Teenager tho' we had very little contact with his Parents, their choice and he'd Married {no Children}. I was Friends and in contact with his Grandma 'til the Day she Died tho'.
But, when I got preggy with The Son, even tho' I had trepidations about Marrying his Father, he wanted to Marry and I relented. We'd been together a couple of Years, but the Marriage lasted exactly 7 Months! Need I say more that I saw it coming too? Not one of my better decisions to Marry that Guy or get rid of him sooner than it took. *Ha ha ha* Yes, even the most disastrous Person had their endearing or lustful Qualities that drew you together into Relationship, but... but, once the Horse is Dead, get off. *Winks, that was my Dad's exact Words of Advice when I asked him if I should Divorce my Ex! LOL* My Parents initially liked my Ex, he was Charismatic, Hard Working, Intelligent, Handsome and came from an Affluent Family who'd Adopted him when he was a Toddler.
My Ex's Affluent Parents had Adopted him when he was 3. But to Save their Family Reputation, had covered up and hid a lot of important facts from me and my Family until after our Divorce, especially about his lifelong Mental Illness. He's spent the majority of his Adult Life in Institutions due to it. After my Divorce from him he did a 27 Year Stretch in Maximum Security Prison for a violent High Profile Crime, so I got out just in Time! Very Scary stuff! So, nothing about Halloween Scares me and very little else does either after all that! The Man ended up being our Savior and Protector until my Ex's complete unraveling sent him Away for 27 years. But it was quite hairy up to then even after I Remarried. And when he eventually got out, we still Track him to this day to ensure our Safety and Well Being.
But every very Damaged Human usually has a damaging Back Story that explains a whole lot. The Backstory of my Ex and his Bio Siblings was beyond tragic and explained a lot about how he turned out. Fraught with Parental Addiction, physical and sexual abuse, extreme neglect, and the Bio Mom was a Prostitute, so, all 4 of her Kids likely by different Johns from her Sex Work. Each Child Adopted to different affluent Families who probably used an Agency in the 1950's that 'Brokered' Babies/Children to Rich People who couldn't Qualify to Adopt by other means. His Parents had been too Old to Adopt other Children, especially White Infants, they managed to get One White Adopted Child, but they didn't want him to be lonely. So, then they Brokered Two Ethnic Minority Children to be his Companions really, my Ex, and a Younger Native American Sister. My Ex was likely at least part Native American, and his Bio Mom had been a Latina.
They didn't treat their Adopted Ethnic Children the same however. And he got abused a lot by his Mother, who, after meeting her, I was sure had always been quite Mentally Ill and a "Mommy Dearest" Type. But, a Rich and Socially Influential Person can have a lot of that covered up in ways most non-affluent non-influential Families never could. How he turned out was likely a combo of Nature and Nurture all being bad. Much like 45, a lot of Psychos are 'made' and damaged beyond redemption. I usually also 'makes' them become very dangerous as well as unstable people, so, it's important to know one when you see/meet one. And having been Married to one, I know what to look for now, I didn't way back then. If I had, I would have saved myself and my Children a lot of irreparable trauma and risk. Pitying my Ex was probably the worst Mistake I ever made. Becoz Psychopaths are very manipulative, dangerous and seize on any Weaknesses and chinks in your Armor. Reserve your Pity for someone else, not a Psycho.
Anyway, my Granddaughter is fortunate her Maternal Family is very close knit and supportive. Apparently she also has the benefit of a wonderful Mother-In-Law, which, that's Priceless and very fortunate too. I'm sure the MIL knows how her Son's pathological Behavior just is, she Raised him and has probably endured any damage control in his wake that happened with his other Relationships and Children he Fathered. Some Men just never are Father or Husband Material and never become Responsible Adults and act like a Real Man, too many are Deadbeat Dads and just Baby Daddy's. This Baby's Daddy is up to Five Kids now by Four different Women... and might already be on to the next... so, good riddance. Somebody ought to Neuter him already. *Winks* Sadly, Princess T's Dad was the same, he's got about 15 Children we have knowledge of by his own Admission, by various Women, Four by our Daughter... and let's face it, a Player-Player never changes. Swipe Left.
The Oldest Granddaughter in Mexico put Joker Halloween Makeup on just for us, since, they don't Celebrate Halloween there, but, she Loves everything American. *Smiles* I told her she's a very Sexy Joker. *LOL* This Sister is just a Year and Two & a Half Months Younger than Princess T is. She'll be turning 18 on December 13th... Princess T turned 19 on September 22nd. This one is very Tall like her Dad is, so she's always looked Older because she's a Head and Shoulders taller than even most Boys her Age were. *LOL* She's the one Working Two Jobs and going to University on a Scholarship she Earned. She Models and is going to get her Degree in Special Education to Teach Special Needs Children. So the Kid already knows how to Work her Hustle and Academically she was very Gifted too, wouldn't be Surprised that like her Older Brother, The Young Prince, she has a Genius level IQ. She has a very nice Boyfriend that The Daughter likes and approves of.
Princess T changed her Mind about her Costume, she's not going as a Pimp coz she said it actually just made her look like a Hooker. *LOL* Not the Look she was going for. *Ha ha ha* So, she's going to First Fridays as either a Sexy Bunny or a Sexy Kitten. *Winks* Switching Costume at the 11th Hour doesn't give one a lot of Options that are viable since most places are picked over or Sold Out of the better Costumes. I think I'd like to visit a SPIRIT Store one last time before they Close Out. There were some items that if they discount them, I'd buy. LATER: We trawled a couple of SPIRIT Stores, a large one that had way less left than the smaller one. They also had completely broken down the Displays already. Nothing will be on Sale until the 1st-3rd, which is their last day Open. There won't be anything left I'd want to go back for. The best is already Sold by now.
But, Today at full price I did Buy the last Skeleton Kitty Cross Body Bag {Above} and a couple sets of Iron On Fabric Hippie Patches. {A few Pixs Below, for me} And a Spinner Pimp Blingy Pot Necklace for Princess T. {Also Below} It was Fun to still peruse the Halloween Merch and they had a lot of last Minute Shoppers looking for Halloween Costumes. Work called me while I was there asking if I'd pull a One to Five Shift since someone just didn't show up? It was already past Noon and I don't Work on any Halloween, so I declined, said I had Plans to spend Halloween Day with the Family, just doing what we do on Halloween. No way I was taking on a Shift someone else dumped and having our Holiday ruined by their inability to be dependable. Holidays are notorious tho' for Co-Workers ditching a Shift where they should have Worked a Holiday and don't want to, so, just don't show up.
I don't do Afternoon or Morning Shifts anyway, so they must have already exhausted the usual On Call List to even call and ask me? I also don't fill in on Holiday No Shows, if they wanted a Holiday Off they should have requested it in advance IMO. Not just bailed at the last Minute and put other Co-Workers Holiday Plans at risk of being interrupted by being asked to work it without prior notice. An Hour's Notice is not even enough when it's NOT a Holiday Shift to replace someone! I don't know who didn't show up, or why, I don't really Care actually. *Smiles* Not my Circus, not my Monkeys. *Winks* The Manager is the Grandson of the Founder of the Company, that's what he gets Paid the Big Bucks to figure out. And, he's got quite the Three Ring Circus going on there most of the time and some rogue Monkeys I'd of Dealt with differently if I was the Ringmaster of that Shitshow. But, I'm NOT. *LOL*
So, we have plenty of decent sized Wood to now Burn Tonight without doing a lot of Wood Cutting. I don't know when we'll get the first of the Trick-Or-Treaters, usually around Dusk or about 6:00 P.M. is when a lot of the Younger Ones Families take them around, since, it is a School Night. Usually by around 8:00 P.M. it's winding down and by 9:00 P.M. you don't get any more, so we turn the Porch Lights off then and come back inside. The new SPROUTS near us has Opened, so I want to go check it out, perhaps Tomorrow Morning. I'm so glad one is now so close by. With all the new Subdivisions and enormous Apartment Complexes going in nearby, they need more Retail, especially Grocers. You can't pack in Residential without the Infrastructure too that supports that added Population explosion.
I watched the Original "Bride Of Frankenstein" Movie from 1935 with Boris Karloff as Frankenstein's Monster and Elsa Lanchester as his Bride. She was quite Beautiful and Iconic with that Character and that Hair! The Ted Turner Channel is replaying all the Old Iconic Horror Movies and critiquing the Characters and how they were Created. My all time Fav "The Haunting" {1963} of Hill House, got interrupted by having to start handing out Halloween Candies Outside with The Family around the Fire Pit. The Set of that Movie was Fabulous, and the Old Time Suspense Horror was Superb. When we bought our Historic Home, which was legit Haunted too, it was on a Street called Hill, I Kid you not!!! And so I always used to call it The Haunting of Hill House as well. I mean, what are the Odds, Right? *LOL* I'd say there were some parallels, so, my Kids and Grandkids always LOVED that Old Movie too for the same reasons I do... you can have a strong Attachment to a Haunted Home. *Smiles*
The Man's Marine Corps. Training, and other Military Branches Training, made him exceptionally Disciplined and Orderly/Organized, so, I never have to Worry about or pick up after him either. Nope, it's all me that is the Problem and I Own it... and have been trying for Years to figure out why I do things that I really don't like, but have become Bad Habits I've got to constantly run damage control behind? It negatively impacts me, so you'd think I'd just NOT fucking do it, Right? It's one of those Psychological Issues that I've not delved deeply into to try to unlock the Mysteries of tho'. I'm just trying really hard to discipline myself to Do Better and with consistency. I don't know where I'm going with it, but, I'm on my way. *Winks*
And I've got Blog Fodder Imagery for Days now so the next few Posts will have all the Holiday Visuals of the rest of Halloween's Eye Candy and Activities, plus Dia de los Muertos, which begins Today and will run thru November 3rd. I will be going to The Desert Botanical Gardens Tomorrow for it, didn't wanna go Today since I have to Work and The Gardens is a long Eastside Commute from the Far Westside. I want to spend most of Saturday there and will even ask Princess T if she can get a ride Home after Work so I don't have to rush Home to get her? I'd ask her Uncle but apparently he's got to Work this Saturday since they're doing some kind of Inventory where he Works. He may even be moving to another Position within the Company coz they know he's been unhappy with recent changes and was thinking of leaving. He'd have a different and better Supervisor, which, would solve 100% of the Problem he was unhappy about.
I don't usually like Pumpkin Spice flavored stuff, but, I must say these Dipped Pretzel Rods from TARGET of that Flavor were quite nice. They were out of my Mummy ones just dipped in unflavored White Chocolate. I can't eat Cocoa Chocolate, it makes me feel Sick, so, the Non Cocoa types are all I can Stomach. I'm not a huge Fan of Sweets, I prefer Salty, Savory and Sour Flavors, but, every so often I find a mildly Sweet Treat I do like, this was one of them, an unexpected Surprise. And, since it's the Day After, and Payday to receive The Man's Checks, well, I may also trawl the Shops to see what's marked down that we should benefit from Buying? Some places were giving away some Seasonal Perishables, so, I'll get some more. I keep Decorated with Pumpkins until after Thanksgiving and they'll easily last thru November now it's getting Cooler. So... stay Tuned my Friends... more coming...
Happy Halloween! Sounds like your granddaughter is making the right choice. Good luck to her.
ReplyDeleteI think so too, it's Sad, since, there are Two Children involved and she only JUST got Married and had waited until her late 20's to do so, I am sure she expected to spend the rest of her Life with who she waited so long to Marry. Her Older Sister has been Married to her Childhood Sweetheart for Years now and was the only Boyfriend she ever had, so they are having that Fairy Tale Union of Kindred Spirits who've Cared for each other since they were only Tweens and have Three Beautiful Children, with a Man whose an excellent Father, Son-In-Law and Husband. I'm not sure many of the Family liked this Granddaughter's Choice actually. But when they're in Love, you have to let a Grown Adult make their own Choices of Life Partner. They're the ones that will have to Live and Sleep with them. I'm very Sad for her, she's not taking it well and is overwhelmed with trying to be a Single Parent, seems he has not been that involved as a Father... and I doubt he was with all the Children he previous had by other Women either.
Delete30 trick or treaters was a pretty good reward for all the prep work and hanging out late at night you did. Princess T looks as adorable as ever.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a decent showing of Kiddos too and manageable. We had a good time and I guess I'd still do it whether anyone came or not. We miss the Days when Communities really did a lot more for the Children on Halloween, they all deserve it and ours have many fond Memories of when it was a Community Event with loads of participation. You should see her Slutty Bunny ensemble she wore to First Fridays, it's in the most recent Post... way Edgier than Bad Bunny was... she went Dark. But then again, she IS our Wednesday Addams Child... *Winks*
DeleteWhat a fun post...and everything looks great, we are do for a small fire this year. soon as waste pick up ends in two weeks, and the next massive branch falls down. We ditched our stored wood as it was rotting with all the rain and muck from the last year. It's dry. again now though. Halloween here was like you---fun but without a fire. We had quite a few families show up because of decoratiions. I never did get good photos of the Skellies...sheesh..hubby had them down before I got them photo'd. Pretty much my energy level is quite low...so that's also a eh...lol. Hugs, and Happy Halloween. Sandi
ReplyDeleteGlad it was a good Halloween in spite of the lack of Photo Ops or a nice roaring Fire. We had to burn up a lot of our Woodpile due to Scorpions and the knowledge that some of the Neighbors a few Streets back within the Mini Farm Community, had a problem with Termites. So, we didn't want to provide the habitat for either pest.
