An Atomic People Inspired Post

 

Disclaimer: This is gonna be a Briefer Post than usual and a Tough Read.

It is a Two-Fer Post kinda day.  Why?  Becoz it is a controversial 80th Anniversary and Heavy Topic of the Atomic Bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  Let's Talk about it, in Respectful Dialogue shall we?  I'm an Old Hippie who was Raised a Military Brat and Married a Career Military Man... quite the juxtaposition, but, not mutually exclusive. Personally, I don't think any Crime against Humanity or Atrocity committed for any "Cause" is the "Right Thing" to do to other Human Beings, not even during Wartime.  That Sentiment then could justify doing it again to other Human Beings, even Non-Combatants, which is terrifying to contemplate, since the Victims could be any of us.  War itself is always rife with Atrocities against Non-Combatants.  I watched a PBS Special called "Atomic People" {British Film 2024}, of Survivors of the Atomic Bombs dropped on Japan during WWII being FINALLY "allowed" to tell their Stories.  I wept thru most of it and I'm glad their Story is finally being told in it's entirety, since it was Forbidden, by Japan and America, for far too long.  The horror of it is inhumane on so many levels and endured for their entire Lifetimes, those few who even Survived it, so many did not and all Died horribly from the effects of it.  It affected their future generations as well since Radiation Poisoning has long term effects.  Horrible effects, horrible disfigurements and mutations, Health Issues and painful Lives and Deaths.   Over 210,000 just by 1945, mostly Civilians, most being Women and Children Non-Combatants.  As of 2024 their numbers swelled to 540,000 Dying as a result of Atomic Bomb Exposure!

  I  don't think any Countries should possess Weapons of Mass Destruction and especially Nuclear Weaponry.  Too potentially Apocalyptic and Cruel as a Means to any End IMO.  And there is a lot of Shame in how America 'studied' the Victims, like they were Lab Rats or Guinea Pigs and not Human Beings that they should have provided Treatment and more compassionate Care for, after we Occupied Japan, but did not even try to.  The Survivors, called Hibakusha, were shunned by their own Culture due to the Fear of contamination.  The Hibakusha only want for it to never happen again to any other Human Beings on this Earth, so that no more like them will have to be killed and maimed by Nuclear War and Humanity might be Saved from needless horrific annihilation.  Most are so Old now that if they hadn't told their Stories right now, it would never have been told and conveniently erased or Whitewashed from our sordid History.  So much I never knew before they humbly told it, with Grace and total horrific Candor of Witnessing the Horrors, as seen thru their Eyes in Childhood or very early Adulthood.  All Living Hibakusha Interviewed were 18 Months Old or up to 21 Years Old when they Survived it 80 Years ago.

With us having a wicked Psychopath in Leadership who has his Hands on the Nuclear Codes of America, along with some other wicked unstable Authoritarian Types like Putin of Russia and Kim Jong Un of North Korea, Nuclear War again is entirely in the realm of possibility.  The Targets they choose to drop another Atomic Bomb on could be anyone anywhere, we just never know or can be sure, all are potentially vulnerable of a repeat of Horrific History.  Currently there are Nine Countries that publicly acknowledge they have or are Believed to have Nuclear Weapons and Seven of those right now aren't particularly stable with Good Leadership.   I'll name the Seven I worry about:  The United States, Russia, Israel, China, India, Pakistan, and North Korea.   Only the United Kingdom and France do I Trust right now not to do something foolishly horrific and inhumane, becoz I feel their Leadership doesn't have a hairpin trigger and is Leadership I probably Trust more not to, at the moment.   And there are other unstable Nations with questionable Leadership close to possessing Nuclear capabilities and have Nuclear ambitions.

Those Countries number about 30, believed to be developing Nuclear Programs, planning or considering them!!!   And several others are thought to have theoretical capabilities to develop them quickly if they would choose to do so.   And since it's a closely guarded Secret as a Topic, we don't really know for sure and can only base speculation on estimates and Intelligence Reports.  That's quite terrifying when you think about it and consider how fucking unstable the Global Stage is quickly becoming and how many Bad Leaders are in place at this moment in Time and would be quite willing to do that to people, and either justify it as the "Right Thing to Do" or just out of Hatred of an Enemy!!!   I remember having the Nuclear Drills when I was a Youngster... and Honestly, I don't think the Threat was as Real as it is right now actually.   We have Nuclear Power Plants now all over the place, we have one right outside Phoenix here in the Far West Valley.  Like Chernobyl {1986}, Three Mile Island {1979} and Fukishima {2011}, bad Nuclear Power Plant Incidents have already occurred. 

 Not to mention above ground Testing sites Radiation exposure.  In places like Nevada, New Mexico, Alaska, Russia, Kazakhstan, China, Algeria, and several Pacific Islands and Atolls {at 5 Locations}.   Some rendered uninhabitable to this day due to the Radiation still present from intentional or unintentional Nuclear exposures.   And there are Marshall Islands housing Nuclear Waste dumps under a deteriorating Concrete Dome that the U.S. refuses to maintain even tho' they built it and used it to dump radioactive Waste that can last over 1,000 Years!!!  These are things never talked about, never discussed, many Indigenous Pacific Islander entire Populations of people were involuntarily displaced permanently from many of these sites so we could Test a Nuclear Weapon on their little slice of Paradise.   The Man said growing up in Utah, the exposure to some Nevada sites Testing Areas caused a lot of Sickness when he was Younger.  And certainly a lot of Military Personnel were exposed and never properly compensated for their exposure that caused Health problems and even Death from it.

I decided to do a Blog Topic of this, even tho' I am Aware it's a Controversial Topic with many Opinions.  Why? Because so much is being done to Cover Up Bad History, as if it never happened and they never want anyone to really remember or to know about it or acknowledge it.   Many Countries do not have Clean Hands, including ours, in shameful Historic incidents, and some feel no Shame about it and some do, it's personal how you feel about Inhumanity, War, Politics or Religion.  I won't try to sway any of you, the Post isn't about Changing Hearts and Minds, that's Self Work for anyone.   However, failing to remember, relay and learn from Bad History is a sure way to repeat it.   And Donnie Two Dolls has certainly stoked Fears of Nuclear War and I personally feel is Old and Unstable enuf to follow thru with dangerous Threats against Humanity without consideration of the consequences or the Human Beings and Wildlife/Nature/Environmental Factors affected by it, perhaps for Hundreds or Thousands of Years.  He's already having Concentration Camps built on American Soil and shipped people off to Gulag Death Camps in other Nations notorious for torture and other violations of Human Rights.  I do not at all Trust him not to commit any heinous atrocity on a Whim, a Tantrum or an Ego Trip.   And we shouldn't be hesitant to have these important Conversations... whichever side we fall on about them...
