Seasonally Conflicted

I am often Seasonally Conflicted... August begins Tomorrow and being that is my Birthday Month I always look forward to it rolling around to Celebrate another year of Life.  However, to me August still signifies Summer in full swing and I like to Appreciate each Season properly without rushing on to the next... therein lies the Conflict!

Because August also signifies the Monsoon Season of Summer in full swing as well, my body is kinda longing for the Cooler days of Autumn, which is the most Glorious of Weather in the Desert!  Autumn is when I typically spend the most time Outdoors and I LOVE the Outdoors!  No matter how spectacular a Home I will ever own, Outdoors is always better and more spectacular to this Nature Lover's Eye!

Creating Indoor Outdoor Living is a Quest I've always taken Seriously when considering the layout of our Home and Garden.  Summer is the most fierce of Desert Seasons and thus not a lot of Outdoor Living goes on during Summer.  I ain't gonna lie, I Miss being Outdoors no matter how Lovely I Feather our Nest Indoors.  Most of you in opposite Climates probably Feel that way about Winter?

It's not that you cannot Appreciate the distinct Beauty that each Season brings or take away from that distinction even during the most Challenging or fierce Season's Weather, it's just that Seasonal Conflict can exist.   I do have my Preferences and I'm sure you do too... and though it seems premature before August even rolls around to be thinking of Autumn and eagerly preparing for it, I DO... there, I said it!

So I do have a sense of slighting poor August, the last Month of Summer, and I didn't always... when we weren't Desert dwellers.   August in many States and Countries I lived the Nomad Life traipsing around was a Glorious Month you Wished would never end!   But in the Arizona Desert... with the Monsoon Madness and all... you're kinda ready for it to end before it even begins!  *LOL*

And Retail Prep doesn't Help matters... since the Shops are already setting up Autumn and all the Wonderful Sights of the Special Decor, Color Palette and Holidays I SO look forward to every year, even before poor August rolls around!  The Sights, Smells and Ambiance of Autumn just Appeals to me more than any other Seasons.   I'm very biased about my preferences for which Season has the most draw to it for me... even tho' I do Love each Season's distinct Mood and Ambiance.

But I am fickle when it comes to Seasonally Conflicted Decor, I don't play by the Book of Seasonal Decorating, hardly ever!!!  I mean Seriously, I haven't even put all of last Christmas away for Heaven's Sake!   I've kept out that Decor which I Love so much I just wanted it hanging around past the Holidays!   And yes, some of last Autumn has abide in our Decor as well, since many of those Objects are the most Beloved and Cherished for our Style and Vibe!  *LOL*

We are the folks that keep a couple of small Champagne Pencil Tinsel Christmas Trees up year round and just Decorate them with different Seasonal stuff because it Pleases us and we like the Look!   The pre-lit doesn't even still work anymore because it wore out on both Trees!   And if you've ever attempted to take the Fairy Lights off of a pre-lit Christmas Tree and replace them you'll understand why I never did!?!  *Smiles*

Yes, falling down our Rabbit Hole here at Bohemian Valhalla you are likely not to know WHICH Season you're in and I'm totally Okay with that actually, I don't Care.   Blending stuff always has been more my Mantra and since I'm so Seasonally Conflicted the best way for me to actually Enjoy any Season is just to blend them all sometimes.  That and EASIER, since Yes, I can be a Lazy falling behind constantly and never quite catching up Stylist!  *Ha ha ha*

Though I must say I really do Enjoy Visiting the Blogs and being Invited into the Homes and Shops where a particular Season that we're IN is so Evident in their Decorating Style!  Sometimes those Seasonally Pure folks even Motivate me to try harder to BE in a particular Season fully!!  I just can't do it very effectively, never have been able to, so probably never will be able to?!?

August just still Feels to me like a Month where you should be Thinking about going to the Beach, Collecting Shells, having Picnics and Decorating with Light Beachy Summery Carefree Decor reminiscent of being on an endless Vacay!  Now, I've got Boxes of Fabulous Conch Shells and other Marine Critters that are an envious Collection of Summerabilia.   There, I just Invented a word for it.  *Winks*  Since the Move I just don't recall which Boxes it could be in that are yet unpacked and stacked in the Garage!?  *Furrowed Brow*

So Girl WHAT was your Nod to a True Summer's Vibe that you did manage this Summer of 2016 you might be asking?  Well, it's pretty feeble and pathetic actually since it's year round Favorites I never put away regardless of the Seasons changing.   My Oil Lamp Sandbox inside of a Gorge Chippy Box made out of Antique Crown Molding.  Sits on The Man's side of the Master Bathroom Vanity and I light it sometimes when I'm taking a Luxurious Spa Tubby at Night.  *LOL*

And my Starfish Creepy Doll Head Baby that my Friend Cyndie Created and I just Love for hanging Bracelets and Earrings in plain sight.   She sits on my side of the Master Bathroom Vanity.   Yes, you're correct, I've taken over both sides, but it's Okay coz The Man is used to that Migration of my Stuff!  *LOL*

No Wonder he's become so Territorial and Sensitive about what the Gypsy Princess is trying to take over that is his, huh?  *Bwahahahaha!*  Us Gals have that knack in the Home, don't we?  What's mine is mine and what's his is mine now too!   It's called Marriage Honey and it just Works that way, Trust me!  *Winks*  But he does have his small Antique Table on his side of the bed in our Boudoir which has his Man Piles of whatever.  Which will never be Photographed coz it's UGLY and not at all Editorial!  *LOL*  But on my Table beside the bed is this Lovely very Old Antique Victorian China Shell Family Heirloom from my Parents and a Nod to Summer.

And also in the Boudoir on the Hollywood Regency Fireplace Mantle is this equally Cherished Antique Family Heirloom Mermaid Clock I Inherited from my Dad, very Summery Style.   I don't know the Back Story of it I just know I've always Loved it since it's so Kitsch and SO my Dad's Style and Quirky Aesthetic!  I know I got my Love of Kitsch from Dad since Mom abhors Kitsch and has much more Refined Tastes and Aesthetic than I.   *LOL*  Mom's Style was much more Palatial Bohemian well Traveled and leaning towards the Richly Exotic.

And I do have a penchant for Shell Art, the more bizarre the better, so I Love this Summery Shadowbox Shell Art with too much going on.  *Smiles*  Though it's still sitting on the floor in the Entry Hallway since I haven't yet decided where I want to hang it yet, but am leaning towards the Wall beside my Cabinet Of Curiosities in the other Hallway.   In New Home I've become more much anal about banging holes in the Walls so I am much more decisive before getting out Maxwell's Silver Hammer!  *LOL*

The Old House had over a Century of hole banging evident so it mattered a lot less where I made another one, you know?  *LOL*   Fact about this Wonderful Find, I ALMOST Sold it because initially I was on the fence about whether to Keep or Flip!?  *Gasp!*   While I contemplated that ridiculous Notion the Big Move occurred and thus gave me the time to come to my senses and Keep it Wondering Dawn what were you thinking??!??!!  Have you ever Sold something and then really Regret it?  I have... it SUCKS in hindsight!

And my enormous Hoard... umm, I mean massively Insane 'Collection' of Vintage Tablecloths always evokes a sense of Summertime for me since most of the Prints are Floral and Bright.  I always have one on the Retro Dining Set Table in the Kitchen.  Also my little Cabinets that store them are some of the few Furnishings that didn't get painted Black when I got the Paintbrush out and went back to my preferred Dark Aesthetic... so anything Colorless or Pastel just reeks Summer, huh?   Which is kinda Weird since Snow is White!!!  *LOL*

My Italian Tole standing Birdcage always Feels Summery to me and is one of the last Bastions of my brief Shabby Chic Decorating Phase still evident.  I just cannot part with it, fell in Lust with one pictured on the Cover of a Romantic Home Magazine way back.  So almost had my Heart stand still when I ran across an Identical one in a random Antique Store booth that had nothing else remotely worthwhile!   So I got it for a Song and I recall Princess T always being perplexed and thinking it Cray-Cray that Gramma had this Wonderful Bird Cage and NO Birds!???!?!  *LMAO*

I remember her being about two years old, looking at said Bird Cage, and asking Grandpa in a LOUD Stage Whisper... does Gramma KNOW she has no Birds?   So I got Birds, loads of Taxidermy Birds to Appease said Child's Curiosity about my Sanity *Winks*... and then she says in an even LOUDER Stage Whisper... does Gramma KNOW all her Birds are DEAD?!??!??   *Bwahahahahaha!*

This from the Child that now Styles my Dead Birds with me and Enjoys that they're wearing Gypsy Bling and the occasional Doll Spectacles and Crowns.  *Smiles*   Yeah they eventually come around if they've Lived down the Rabbit Hole any length of time.   Accepting almost anything as being the Norm around Gramma's Weird and Wonderful Decorating Style and preferred Aesthetic!

And that brings me to my last feeble Nod to Summer Decorating with this Delightful Pastel Laura Van Box Creation by my Talented Friend Laura VanLandingham.   I am totally Obsessed with Laura's body of Work and whether Pastel or any other Color of the Rainbow it always Works with my Aesthetic and I practically have a Laura Van Shrine of Creations in our Boudoir!  *LOL*  So, Yes, I AM Seasonally Conflicted my Friends, how about you?  Seasonally Pure or Seasonally Conflicted or Blended?  Informal Survey in progress...

Monsoon Madness

I Confess that once the Monsoons roll in I'm not inclined to want to do very much of anything since humidity drains me... and it seems like Monsoon Madness to be Outside for any reason when it's so Hot AND Humid!

But sometimes I have to be... and sometimes I have to be with an entourage in tow... and all of us become fussy and overheated and begin to act like a bunch of Cranky two year olds!  *LOL*  That's not a Good Look for a Woman my Age!  *Ha ha ha*

I have to come Clean that once I begin sweating bullets and get that Headache, I'm not very Lovely and definitely not having Fun anymore!  *Smiles*  Today was THAT kinda day... meeting some Friends at the Old Property for a Private Showing... then trying to have a semi-pleasant Girl's Day Out with Princess T before picking her Brother up from his Dad's later this Afternoon.

We had the best of Intentions to have this Wonderful Saturday Out and get what needed to get done out of the way first.  Since it's the last Weekend before School begins again... but the Heat coupled with high Humidity after last Night's Monsoon Storm just made it miserable!  The Princess and I decided to abort said Girl's Day Out prematurely and pick The Young Prince up early.

The Young Prince was ready to leave early... seems his little Brother was equally Unlovely in this Heat and Humidity and he's actually closer to being a Cranky two year old for Real, being he's three! *LOL*  Along with having his little chin busted open from jumping off his new bunk bed and having to get the wound glued shut at the ER... and being cooped up inside, he was Beastly and terrorizing everyone apparently!  *Smiles*  Ah, I don't envy anyone still having a Pre-School Aged Child in the house, especially this time of year!

And especially a Pre-School Aged BOY since they always seem to Dream up the most dangerous things to do that seem like a good idea to them at the time!  Ah yes, I recall having the Emergency Hotline on Speed Dial when The Son and then The Young Prince were that less than Delightful Age!  *Shudder!*

So... your Little Brother was being bratty this Weekend and you didn't Enjoy the time with him this visit I casually says??!  Oh No, WAY worse than that Gramma, you have no Idea... he deadpans with a most Serious look on his face and clearly having had no Sleep!!!  Great Birth Control method this making a Teen Boy hang out with much younger Sibling for the Weekend!   *Insert me trying not to Laugh!*

When The Son was a Teen Boy, since he was our Youngest, and before The Young Prince was born and we Inherited his Nephew to Raise, I would have The Son assist in the Church Day Care for similar reasons.   Since so many Teens were Fathering Children prematurely that he knew with Teen Girls not ready for Motherhood either. *Winks*  It worked like a Charm, he never Fathered any Children of his own... the Young Prince is convinced he wants no Children of his own either now.  *Bwahahahaha!*

I do Love Children, but you have to be the appropriate Age to be Raising them... not too Young... not too Old... they're a lot of Work and a huge responsibility!!!  I know I'm on the Too Old side of Raising them... I know this because when they start trifling and becoming fussy and difficult, I reach Saturation Point FAST!   *LOL*

When this trio I have at Home, with their individual Mood Regulation Issues,  get fussy and difficult on a Hot Humid day, I'm banishing each of them to a different part of the house quickly so I don't have to go Mental!  That's why I bought a big house, to scatter them so they don't even have to be near or see one another when they can't get along and play well with others!  *Winks*

So The Young Prince is used to that when Monsoon Madness afflicts others, Gramma immediately Mediating and scattering everyone to their respective Escapes to Cool down and Calm down for everyone's Sanity.   There is no place to Escape TO at my Dad's Apartment he laments, so the Little One was driving him beyond Crazy and it took him the whole Commute Home and about an hour back Home to Recover from the Ordeal!  *LOL*

Meanwhile, back at Villa Boheme', tho' The Young Prince was sounding like Dorothy from the Wizard Of Oz and saying There's No Place Like Home... The Stylist and Grandpa were escalating their beef with each other almost immediately after I got Home with the Kiddos.  You see, she's in Didi Kai Mode of Tent Building all around the Villa, so she'd built Encampments... Impressive ones... that were threatening to take over The Man's Personal Spaces... Uh Oh... yeah, he's become very Territorial with this Traumatic Brain Injury Condition!  *Le Sigh*

Now... Me, Myself and I... don't mind Encampments all over the house, I totally get the Gypsy Vibe and Enjoyment of a Temporary Tent structure to Gel in and Pretend you're on a Dreamy Staycation... especially if you're cooped up inside due to inclement weather outside.  So long as they're happily building their Encampments and Quietly Occupying them... and more importantly leaving me ALONE, I'm freakin' Golden about it!  *LMAO*

I dunno, mebbe it was her Signs taped up all around Camp that disturbed Grandpa and aroused irritation... "No Boys Allowed at Bace Camp!" {I've intentionally left her amusing spelling intact for you to Smile about too!}  She claimed Grandpa was banging the remote control on MY Recliner's arm rest loudly so she'd know, even sequestered inside the Tent leaving everyone alone, that it's recent expansion towards HIS Recliner was arousing irritation!  *LOL*

Yes, the Battle was escalating and War had been declared in the Living Room between The Old Marine wanting to retain his Ground and The Young Gypsy Princess becoming an unwelcome Squatter on what he considers his 'real estate'... yes, a familiar scenario was unfolding.   So I convinced her to relocate the Camp Upstairs and I'd supply all Poufs and Chairs for her to spread her Blankets and Exotic Pillows around on and under to make the Ultimate Encampment with.

One would Think I had thus averted disaster, right?   Wrong... Nope... seems it disturbed him all the more that part of the Downstairs Furnishings were now Migrating Upstairs with her!   And she would need his Help in carrying the one heavy Pouf that she had lost control of halfway up the stairs and had come cascading down, taking out everything in it's path on the Landing!  *Oooops!*

So now the Battle was in full swing between them... there was Tears and Yelling there was Hysteria and much Drama!   This melee was enough to arouse The Young Princes curiosity and he comes out of hibernation in his Suite, mostly as a Spectator since he knew if Gramma had to get up out of this Chair where she was trying to Relax and take a Blog Break... well, then, things would surely get Interesting and folks would be scattering in all directions!  *Winks*

You, addressing The Man... now have a Camp Free Space in the Living Room to go be Quiet and Happy in!!! {Pointing in direction of said Room he's being separated into!}  And You, addressing now Hysterical Encampment Queen, have every Pouf, Blanket and Pillow Upstairs now to be about building your New Camp to be Quiet and Happy in!!! {Pointing in direction of her Suite she's being separated into!}

And You, addressing Spectator Prince who was just there to gleefully see everyone else get in Trouble, now that you're Involved... Help HER schlep all this crap off my Upstairs Landing slash Studio Space into her New Campsite!  {Pointing in direction of where newly appointed Sherpa was to lug it all in for her!}  Yeah, that'll teach him to get into the Mix as Spectator and become an unwitting Participant!  *LOL*  And when you're done with that, go back into hibernation {Pointing to his Suite} and be Quiet and Happy as well!

Shhhhhh... do you hear it my Friends?!?   The Sound of Quiet and Happy!!!!!!  Which is how I LIKE Villa Boheme' to sound so that I'm HAPPY and there's no Trouble in Paradise making me become fussy and overheated... because when Gramma ain't Happy... ain't NOBODY Happy!   And few can do Monsoon Madness quite like the Queen of her Kingdom can!!!  *Winks*  And they all Lived Happily Ever After... THE END.  *Smiles*

A Dreadful Kinda Day

Dreadful in a Good way... *Smiles*... since while The Stylist and I were, well, Styling parts of the Home, getting rid of piles laying around and unpacking, we always wanna have Fun with it!   So she donned some Dreads we came across as we moved some Storage out of a Garage... sure Wish I could look this Cute in ANY Hairstyle!!!

I've found that especially when you're tackling Dreaded Projects *Sorry, couldn't resist the Pun* you have to interject some Fun and Silliness into the Work to make it Enjoyable enough to do for any length of time.   She and I were determined to get at least one Room of New Villa Boheme' Transformed, Organized and devoid of piles and misc. clutter laying about.   Natch she was in Charge of Organization, since Chronic Disorganization is one of this Gramma's weaknesses.

She even got reluctant Grandpa in on the Act, under mild Protest, he donned the Dreads.  Me thinks he really wanted to wear them... only he knew his Wifey the Pathological Picture Taker would NEED to Preserve this Moment thru the Eye of the Lens and Share it with the World!  *LOL*  I think he pulls the Look off Well, Seriously I could Roll with My Man Dreaded Up... throw some braids and beads in that Beard and he'd be positively Artsy in an Aging Hippie sorta way, right?!  *Winks*  He's a Great Sport, that's why we Loves him so!!!

But because faux Wool Dreads itch, after a bit of Fun it was time to Undread and finish up our Work.  Notice background mini piles here and there... and freakin' everywhere it seems!  We've been buying School Supplies... hundreds of dollars worth of Back to School very specific crapola!!!  Lord have Mercy we'll need a mini U-Haul to deliver it all to School that first day!  Those Lists are so LONG no Child can carry that much crap in a backpack without having Sherpa strength!

That's why we NEEDED that Day Road Trip the other day, to decompress after School Shopping and parting with a couple hundred bucks just like that... and for just ONE CHILD to start School!!!   Have to wait for the August checks to hit before I can afford to take The Young Prince to gather whatever long list of supplies he'll need for his Junior Year of High School?!?  Oy vey!!!

So are you Enjoying the Fantastical Ray Villafane Sand Sculpture Art that we saw on our Day Road Trip to Carefree and Cave Creek my Friends?   Ray is such a Sculptural Jedi, the Young Prince, who also is Blessed with considerable Natural Sculpting Artistic Talent, scrutinizes every display to hone his own techniques.  If ever Ray were to Host Sculpting Classes, I'd sign the Young Prince up to be an Apprentice in a heartbeat!   I know he could do this Quality of Work with the right Mentor Guiding and Teaching him.

The whole Display was a Mouse and an Elephant in a Game of Chess... but I'd only brought the Camera Phone and forgotten New Camera at Home, dammit!  Usually my Camera is like an appendage and I've always got it with me, but gathering up the entire Family for a Road Trip takes such logistics that forgetting something is unfortunately a 'Given', I'm Lucky I left with my Sanity!!!   *LOL*

The other Sculpture was an Owl with her Owlets, at least I think that's what Baby Owls are called since spell check didn't correct me!?  *Ha ha ha*  It was a fiercely Hot day so strolling around the Lovely Park in the Center of Town we had it practically all to ourselves, with the exception of other die hard Art Lovers who braved the heat to see the Exhibit.   I'm guessing that when the Monsoon Storms roll in this will all dissolve away unless it's Tented for inclement weather?

I don't know if Ray will be adding to the Exhibit or not, I do know that if he's doing another Pumpkin Carving Exhibit this Halloween, we'll be there!  Last year he did some Carving Lessons and I think the Young Prince missed coming with his Sister and I?!?  I'd have to look back upon Photo Archives to be sure, but I think it was our Girl's Day Out and we had High Tea at the Tea House across the Street from the Park, which wouldn't have been a thing the Guys would have been 'Into'?!  *LOL*  In fact, this day I couldn't talk the Guys into High Tea either!  *Le Sigh*

Altho' we did mutually Muse about what type of Brick and Rock Facade we'd like for New Villa Boheme' eventually and decided upon the upper Stone and Brick Style {sans the Field Stone lower section} that is on this Grocery Store Archway.   Yeah, we could definitely be unanimous in this Look as Architectural Accents in the Future Transformation of the exterior of parts of Villa Boheme'.  Fun to Imagine all the Possibilities... we always want to put our Stamp on any Home.

But this day it was more about what we were doing to improve the interior of the Home.   At least no longer was The Stylist turning her Critical Eye upon Antelope's New Crown since I hadn't yet fixed the Bug Antennae Look nor removed the Millinery Headband.  *Shhhhhh!!!  Mebbe she won't notice?!*

We had decided upon beginning in the Main Dining Room since we do a lot of our Artwork, pricing Inventory, paying bills, Reading, eating etc. around that Table for now and needed it uncluttered and better Organized.   We wanted all piles off the floor and anything that didn't yet have a place banished to the Garages for now from that Room.  At least in the Garages I don't HAVE to look at any of it, which is good for the Psyche and not Feeling Overwhelmed by what isn't yet done.

We stashed Gypsy Trims and Fabric that will eventually be part of that Room's Gypsy Curtain Project in less conspicuous places for now.  So I can still easily find it yet not feel it's unceremoniously dumped in piles on the floor of that Room!  The Curtain Project is something I can Work on slowly since all sewing and pinning of Vintage Fabrics and Trims can be done while the Main Blank Canvas of a Curtain hangs on the Arcadia Doors leading to Inner Courtyard and across same Room to the Back Yard spaces.  So it can be a Work in Progress continuously really.

Mule Deer hangs just to the Left of said Curtain in Progress right now and is Inspiring me to continue with this Room's Transformation since it's slowly but surely coming together nicely.  I think when one Room is Complete I will have momentum to move on to the next and so on and so forth until whole Home is eventually DONE!!!   I know I'm only a year in, but I'm already impatient to have everything in Order so I can just relax a bit and Enjoy Life without pending Projects.

Remember, New Home was SUPPOSED to mean less Pending Projects, right?!  Yeah, we were quite Delusional about all that weren't we... us being US and all!  *Bwahahahahahahahaha!!!*
